As the developer of Blackberry smartphones with 5G services, Onward Mobility has confirmed that the company has officially closed.
The closure of the company from Austin has been confirmed. This impacts the failure of the production of its smartphone under the name Blackberry.
In 2020 Onward Mobility became famous after boasting that it plans to launch a BlackBerry-branded smartphone with 5G connectivity and still use the keypad.
But as of 2021, the company still hasn't launched its devices and is still promising to ship phones with keypads by 2022.
In the end, it was not so surprising, after learning that the manufacturer has now officially confirmed that it is closing its production business.
Onward Mobility posted a farewell message on its website Android Central confirming the shutdown and cancellation of its smartphone:
“We want to thank all of you for the incredible support you have given us since we first launched Forward Mobility. However, it is with great sadness that we announce that Onward Mobility will be discontinuing, and we will no longer continue to develop ultra-secure smartphones with physical keyboards." Crackberry foresaw the possible failure of Onward Mobility reported earlier this month.
By revealing that Onward Mobility is dead and its BlackBerry-branded phone canceled.
Android Police have also corroborated the news by revealing that BlackBerry announced that it was selling its patent portfolio related to the phone for around $600 million.
Furthermore, it is claimed that CEO John Chen decided not to license the BlackBerry name for other smartphones.
Closing Onward Mobility means failing to provide mobile phone offerings with keypads to potential customers who still have an interest in it.
