Twitter Tests Remove Tags from Other People's Tweets

On Twitter, our account names are often tagged/marked by someone for postings or threads that we don't like, especially if the post is being spoken about. So awkward right?

Well, because this tag makes notifications start flashing up every time there is a reply to a remark on the post. Thus Twitter supposedly has a new way to overcome this problem.

Launching from The Verge, Wednesday (2/23/2022) journalist and researcher Jane Manchun Wong took to her Twitter account to publish a screenshot of Twitter's new feature named "Leave This Conversation."

In his tweet, he noted that this function can remove our name account tags from conversations on Twitter so as to prevent others from re-tagging or tagging our accounts in the conversation and block notifications from appearing in those chats.

This feature is separate from "Mute This Conversation," an option to turn off alerts of threads that you are referenced in or tagged in.

The Leave This Conversation feature will make your Twitter tag show as plain text in a post you're tagged in, instead of the hyperlink that users generally see if they tap the Twitter tag.

This step can deter other users from engaging people in subsequent chats and implicitly code you if you're no longer interested in participating.

Twitter has not verified whether it is truly testing the function or not. However, Twitter continues to provide subtle techniques to regulate how other people engage with your account.

Many of Twitter's new features now favor user privacy. Twitter recently launched a feature that streamlines choices for forcing other users to unfollow, as well as restricting replies and notifications when accounts with many followers repost.
